Cookies Policy

Last updated: October 2026

This Cookies Policy explains what cookies are, which cookies cliffmadhoneyindex.org uses, and how you can control them.

1. What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They are widely used to make websites function correctly, work more efficiently, and provide basic reporting information to site owners.

2. How We Use Cookies

Cliff Mad Honey Index is an independent, ad-free reference site. We use a small number of cookies, and we do not use them to serve advertising or to build profiles of visitors.

We use cookies for two purposes only:

Strictly Necessary Cookies

These cookies are required for the site to function and cannot be disabled. They do not store any personally identifiable information. They include:

  • Session cookies: Set by WordPress to maintain basic site functionality. These expire when you close your browser.
  • Security cookies: Set to protect against cross-site request forgery (CSRF) attacks.

Analytics Cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors use the site: which pages are read, how far, and which features (such as the dose calculator, FAQ answers and source links) are used. Clarity also shows us replays of individual visits, with typed text and other sensitive content masked, so we can find pages that are hard to use. We do not use these tools to identify anyone.

  • _ga and _ga_* (Google Analytics, first-party, 2 years): tell one visitor and one session from another.
  • _clck (Clarity, first-party, 1 year): keeps the Clarity visitor ID and preferences for this site.
  • _clsk (Clarity, first-party, 1 day): joins the page views of one visit into a single session.
  • CLID, MUID, ANONCHK, MR, SM (Microsoft, set on Microsoft domains, up to 1 year): used by Clarity to recognise a browser across sites that use Clarity and across Microsoft services. Microsoft also uses MUID for advertising and site analytics.
  • If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, none of these cookies are set.

We never sell analytics data or share it with anyone for marketing or advertising.

3. What We Do Not Use Cookies For

We do not use cookies for any of the following:

  • Advertising or retargeting
  • Social media tracking pixels
  • Personalisation or profiling
  • Selling data to third parties

Cliff Mad Honey Index does not serve ads and has no advertising partners.

4. Third-Party Cookies

We do not embed social media widgets, video players or advertising scripts. The only third-party cookies are the Microsoft cookies listed above, which Clarity sets on Microsoft domains. Links to journal articles and other sources open the external site and set no cookies here.

5. How to Control Cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Instructions vary by browser:

  • Google Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data
  • Mozilla Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data
  • Microsoft Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions

Please note that disabling strictly necessary cookies may affect how the site functions.

To opt out of Google Analytics on every site, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking third-party cookies in your browser stops the Microsoft cookies listed above. For how Microsoft uses Clarity data, see the Microsoft Privacy Statement.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookies Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
